Barely 48 hours after it’s release, Wizard Chan’s latest extended play (EP) “The Messenger” has made its debut entry, clinching the number one spot on Apple Music’s alternative album chart and number twenty one on all other genres.
These were made known via a post on the singer’s official X account celebrating the new feat yesterday.
He wrote: “Number 1 Alternative album 💿 on Apple and 21 on all genre. WHAT SONG IS YOUR FAVORITE SO FAR? “The messenger”.”
Recall that Wizard Chan recently released a nine-track EP titled “The Messenger” featuring guest artists such as Bona Dime, Dino Zee and Joeboy with production credits to Pumba mix on track one, five, six and eight; Shiro on track two, Laycee house beats on track three, Ucee and Renehi on track four and 01french and Pumba mix on track seven.
“The Messenger” is Chan’s first ever major project since the launch of his music career in 2020 with the release of his debut single “Halo Halo.”
The singer however, rose to the limelight with the release of his hit single “Earth song” in 2022 and has continued to entertain his teaming fan base with eventual releases such as Highlife and Moses featuring Boma Nime.
He has also been featured by some contemporary African music creatives including 01french and King Perry amongst a few others.
In 2023, Chan’s “Earth song” was nominated for Best Alternative Song of the year at both the Headies awards and at the Galaxy Music Awards and eventually emerged winner of all two nominations.
Remarkably, “Earth song” was Chan’s starter song as it was responsible for fetching him popularity in the music industry even as it had reportedly climbed the charts as one of the Top 20 Songs in Nigeria on Apple Music at the time.
In the same year, he was also nominated for Best Songwriter of the Year but did not win.
Prior to the release of “The Messenger” EP, Chan released one of the songs, “Loner” featuring Joeboy. This release has undoubtedly, served as a springboard for the success of his most recent project as Loner is currently sitting on the 12th position on Apple Music’s Top 100 Nigerian songs.
The hit single has also debutted at No. 55 on this week’s Official Nigeria Top 100 songs on the TurnTable Charts, thereby making “Loner” Wizard Chan’s second entry and Joeboy’s 28th entry on the TurnTables Nigerian music chart.
In a related news, Album Talks via it’s X handle on Thursday also disclosed that “The Messenger” EP has peaked inside the Nigerian Apple Top 5 at number 4.
The Messenger has thus been gaining traction for the singer. In a lengthy post on X, a netizen identified as JoeyAkan wrote:
“It took Wizard Chan 13 years to finally get his moment in the sun.
“For scale, that’s pretty much the exact amount of time Wizkid and Davido have been dominating the market.
“When viewed via the lens of self-application, they’re peers. But inequality of outcomes will present a different reality.
“Industry math will say Wizard Chan’s career is 1-year-old, counting from his first buzzing single.
“And it’s not wrong. Na when you blow your career start.
“And even though they’ve all been making music for the same duration, they can call Wizard Chan a new cat, and they’ll be justified.”
Originally Fuayefika Maxwell, Wizard Chan is a Nigerian reggae and hip-hop singer, songwriter and music producer. He was born on 26, June in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.
