Rev Fr Kelvin Ugwu who is a catholic priest working in Gambia has slammed Asake for dropping a wack video of his trending song ‘only me’
The priest stated that Asake had “packaged empty songs that could reduce people’s intelligent quotient” in a post on his facebook page on saturday, stating clearly his disappointments, the cleric said most artists these days package empty songs like how Asake did in ‘only me. He further went on to say that people who don’t recognize the emptiness of the song would go on to compare it to 2baba’s song of 2010 which had the same title ‘only me’
Fr Kelvin said that 2baba’s ‘only me’ would and has remained ever green so much that even monks could relate to it and find it worth listening to, this statement followed criticisms especially for the fact that Asake is seen wearing the catholic robes .
In the video Asake is seen wearing priestly attire and this has been termed ‘disrespectful’ by Catholics and other Christians. Fr Kelvin claimed that the music video was supposed to depict the lyrics of the song but rather the video shows a different thing and this prompted him to say ” this is how you know how empty and wack a song is including the artist”. According to him “the whole theatrics of using the church and things for mass is so that people will watch the nonsense”.
He said ” i have just listened to Asake’s song titled only me- the same song whose video portrayed him dressed in priestly vestments with his co priests as they carry out their form of worship as if they are on a mission to out do Tinubu who has remained undefeated in the art of arranging fake priests and bishops. after listening to that song what i immediately asked myself was “where is the song has it started?” i don’t know about you, but the song is so empty ( and this is me not having the right words to describe it) .
“If you don’t know how wack the song is try comparing it to 2baba’s song of 2010 which has the same title ‘only me’ it is now 14 years since 2baba dropped that song , and even though it is a secular song, not only is the song ever green with lots of hard work put into it , the song is so deep that even monks would find it worth listening to”
“This is a time when the whole world listens to Nigeria and Nigerian songs, but what these artists these days do is package empty songs like how Asake did in ‘only me’ and get ThankGod Omori to give a high definition video and cinematography with a little touch of controversy so that it would get people to their page, this is why i am not surprised about the video.”
” ask yourself, what really is the connection between the video and the song? Music video is supposed to depict the song, but in this case the music video is so unrelated.
