The popular transvestite who was recently apprehended by the Lagos zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday night has been granted bail on a condition that his passport will be seized.
This is because Bobrisky is yet to fulfill all the prescribed bail conditions which were however, not clearly stated in the anti-graft agency’s recent statement about his bail.
The EFCC had reportedly arrested him after he was seen spraying wads of the new naira notes at a movie premier – an act thatvis considered to be against the new naira policy which has been put in place by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission released a statement via their social media page stating that Bobrisky was arrested based on allegations of publicly spraying and displaying the new naira notes at the premier of the movie ‘Ajakaju’ which was produced by Eniola Ajao.
Investigations gathered by the command stated that he had also committed the alleged offence at some other events centres and parties at different times.
Following the invitation by the commission, Bobrisky arrived at the Lagos Zonal command of the EFCC in the morning of wednesday April 4, 2024 for interrogation and volunteered his statement. The EFCC had also said that he would be charged to court.
But yesterday evening Bobrisky was reportedly released by the commission on terms that his international passport will be seized pending when he is ready to fulfill all bail conditions.
The transgender who has been in so many controversial events in the past weeks was supposed to be facing the law this time around for going against the new currency policies according to phone statement made by Mr Dele Oyewale. He said,
“Bobrisky is with us, he was arrested last night in Lagos and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of naira notes and currency mutilation among others. We are very serious about restoring the dignity of naira. Though our investigation is still ongoing, but he will definitely be charged to court soon.”
of the Central Bank of Nigeria which clearly states that the indecent use of naira should be shunned as perpetrators would be punished severely according to the laws of the country and also the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it will clamp down on currency hoarders who have been affected by the new central bank currency directive.
Recall that on 26 of october the CBN, the former governor of the central bank of Nigeria announced the plan to redesign some of the naira denomination which are 200, 500 and 1000 in order to control money supply and aid security agencies in tackling illicit flow of the naira. The EFCC also urged Nigerians to report any hidden money to the commission and also promised to a 5 percent reward to whistleblowers.
Although bailed from the commission’s custody, Bobrisky is not totally free because her bail conditions were not concluded and might still be facing prosecutions after a short period.
